The Ribolla Gialla Biele Zôe Cuvée 85I15 2017 from Tenimenti Civa once again takes home 5 Grapes in the Bibenda guide. The quality of Ribolla Gialla, a DOC wine from Friuli Colli Orientali, had already received accolades last year from the Fondazione Italiana Sommelier with the 2016 vintage.
“For all our wines, and thus also for Ribolla Gialla from native grapes, the production process begins in the ‘vineyard’,” said Valerio Civa, owner of the estate, “where we strive to achieve perfect ripeness. Furthermore, we are convinced of the importance of promoting the grape variety in order to strengthen its link with its traditional production area, namely part of Friuli Colli Orientali and the Gorizia Hills, on both the Italian and Slovenian sides.”
The excellent reputation enjoyed by Ribolla on Italian and international markets is demonstrated by its sales figures. Consumers are increasingly attracted to native varieties and particular types of wines such as sparkling wines, which between 2011 and 2016 saw an increase in exports of 118% (Nomisma data). Still white wines from Friuli Venezia Giulia appear to be more popular than other regions on the wine lists of Italian restaurants. Ribolla Gialla is the favourite wine, followed by Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Friulano (formerly Tocai) and Pinot Grigio. Supermarket sales also confirm Ribolla Gialla’s positive trend.
The reasons for this success are also linked to the tasting profile of Ribolla, its versatility in food pairings and the various occasions for which it is well suited.
